I am a huge movie buff; release a movie and I will be in theaters to watch it. Although, it has to be one of my favorite actors but I have loads so that is not a big problem. There are many actors who are signed to perform various different roles in movies and many pull them off superbly. This list talks about ten of the most awesome actors that are signed for various genres. It is so amazing to see one of them in an action movie and the next movie they sign is completely different. I appreciate the fact that these actors do not shy away from experiencing different genres. There are many actors who have stuck to just one particular genre throughout their careers and that for me, gets boring.
10. LEONARDO DICAPRIO
Leonardo DiCaprio is what you would refer to as a ‘method actor’. Method acting by definition is acting where the actor researches and develops a character in real life. This is quite evident in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. He was only nineteen years old when he visited a home for mentally unstable teens just to investigate how they behave. This was all for his role in that particular film. He has played many other major roles as well and the range he has is, well, obvious.
9. JOHNNY DEPP
Johnny Depp is by far my favorite actor. He is mostly known now for his roles in the Pirates of the Caribbean series and Alice in Wonderland but that’s not all there is to him. He has many different movies under his belt and major ones. He has portrayed a good hero, a good villain and a good historical figure. He proved his name with voice acting and with musicals. On a side note, I can NOT get enough of Captain Jack Sparrow; pure brilliance.
8. MATT DAMON
Matt Damon has a crazy range of acting. One day he will be an average every-day guy (Good Will Hunting) while on the next he will be an international spy. Matt Damon is known as a ‘method’ actor and this is obvious if you consider the physical representation. In his movie ‘The Informant’, he had to gain weight and he was on a diet of hamburgers, pizza and dark beer for a very long time. He described the diet as being ‘fun’ which is obvious.
7. CASEY AFFLECK
This guy is the younger brother of Ben Affleck, but of course you already know that. He is an amazing actor in my opinion and I am sure you will agree. He hasn’t been in as many movies as his brother but the content of his movies makes up for that in entirety. He has performed in major movies such as The Assassination of Jesse James and Ocean’s Eleven films. He even showed his talents as a comedy actor in American Pie.
6. MARK WAHLBERG
He has had a remarkable career to say the least. He is known as Marky too by the way. Remember the movie Fear? He actually scared the audience with his performance. I still remember him from The Truth about Charlie and there are such differences in the man himself. Remember the movie The Other Guys? He was awesome with Will Ferrell. His best work, in my opinion, would be The Departed. The movie had a fantastic cast but Wahlberg still pretty much stood out.
5. EDWARD NORTON
This guy is particularly well at acting. He has done a brilliant job in whatever role he has ever played and that is to say the least. Of course, the name and even the face will bring up ‘The Hulk’ but that’s not all there is to him. Do you remember his role in the movie Red Dragon? Do you guys remember his role in the movie called Stone? He gave an impression that made me believe that he actually was a philosophical criminal. Remember The Fight Club? He is a fantastic actor, hands down.
4. TOM CRUISE
From Mission Impossible to Vanilla Sky to Magnolia; this guy has never failed to impress me. He has always played the different characters with absolute determination and he pulls them off quite well. He is not, what people would call, a ‘method’ actor and that is why it is quite surprising how he fits in all those roles. He is now generalized as crazy because of a few incidents and therefore we might not be seeing many movies by him. Do you remember his appearance in Oprah?
3. JOAQUIN PHEONIX
This guy is not that big an actor although whenever he did star in a movie, he never failed to impress and it did not matter whether his character was mainstream or not. He announced his retirement from the acting world a while ago but later in February 2010, he was back. He appeared in a documentary called ‘I’m Still here’. You have got to see that documentary, it is really interesting. You will find out what the retirement was all about; pretty clever, in my opinion.
2. CHRISTIAN BALE
He is probably the most well-known actor in cinema these days thanks to Batman. His roles are not limited to superhero type of course he was able to demonstrate a much wider range. Remember his performance in American Psycho; it was mind blowing. Do you remember when he lost 60 pounds for a role in one of his films where he is a meth-addicted machinist? The best part is that he regained all of that lost weight for his role in batman. From super week to those muscles; that is impressive Bale!
1. JOHN C. REILLY
I am sure you are surprised to see his name taking the number one spot but believe me he does justice to this rank. He is mostly a side-kick sort of character and has appeared with Will Ferrell a lot of times. He has starred in many other comedies as well. He has proved time and time again that his acting boundaries extend well beyond just comedy. He is perfect for dramatic roles and roles that require loads of memorization. He has proved himself as a serious actor as well. The reason I placed him at number one is because you will not expect such stuff from this guy. Well, he does really well to boot.
